Alice Harpel Ph.D.
Hoosier Artist (Active)

Alice Harpel grew up in rural Pennsylvania. She received her Bachelor's at the University of Dayton, Dayton, OH, her Masters, in education, from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, and her Doctorate in Educational Administration from Nova Southeastern University, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Upon retirement from the field of education, she returned to her lifelong passion — art.

Alice considers herself to be a "Colorist." A colorist is the way color is used in painting. It can be different direction brush strokes or intense, vibrant color. She gets her inspiration from the beauty found in her mid-western community, from scenes of Sugar Creek, Shades State Park, local country roads, local gardens, and still life subjects from local Farmer's Markets.
Artist's Statement
I am a fine artist residing in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Upon retirement from the Indiana Department of Education, I have created a second career in the fine arts.

Most of my artwork originates from my original photographs, my Plein Air experiences, and my memory. I paint primarily in oils, acrylics, and pastels and often introduce other elements, such as collage paper, to achieve my desired vibrant colors and texture.

For subject matter I concentrate mainly on floral, still life, and landscapes. All my work has a contemporary look and usually has a red undertone that adds warmth.

When people view my work, I want them to simply enjoy it, indulging in the non-complicated imagery through my bold and vivid palette. (https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/alice-harpel-2673/bio).
